Scope of Work
Design and Installation of Hotel Water Features

Biwater Leisure undertook a series of unique and exciting landscape water feature designs for the Shimizu and Ritz Carlton corporations on the prestigious Hotel Arts Complex, Barcelona. Biwater Leisure were the specialist sub contractor responsible for the supply, design and installation of all the filtration and chemical dosing equipment together with the various water garden pipework distribution systems.

Other works included the manufacture and installation of the roof top stainless steel swimming pool and Jacuzzi, swimming pool tiling, purpose made granite pavers in the base of all the water gardens and the surface draw off systems. The hotel and retail complex provides a luxurious array of landscaped water features comprising seven ornamental pool areas a tower pool (located around the base of the hotel), water garden (located in front of the hotel entrance foyer), roof-top hotel swimming pool and sunken spa pool with three further pools around the retail area.

All the pools contain clean, filtered water and are served by dedicated filtration plants. Two treatment systems are employed to ensure high quality water, ozone and ion sanitation, with acid injection for pH correction. The ozone and pH are both automatically corrected by a pH/redox controller, which constantly monitors a sample of water from each pool area.

The filtration systems incorporate 12 No GRP high pressure sand filters, varying in size up to 1.8m diameter with automatic backwashing. In addition 2 No diatomaceous earth pressure filters of 0.75m provide filtration for the roof top swimming pool and spa.

The tower pool incorporates a 40m long perimeter wall dispersing large volumes of water to create an illusion of falling torrents, together with a cascade wall and a weir descending into the non turbulent main pool area. These features create a mixture of reflections and patterns from a marbled-effect paved pool base.
The entrance foyer features a spectacular water garden with illuminated water rills cascading between huge terra-cotta steps, dressed with hanging foliage.
